Govt Announces CPF Scheme; Stakeholders Invited for Talks on May 6

Shillong, May 4 : The Government of Meghalaya has officially notified the “Meghalaya Non-Government School and College Employees Centralised Provident Fund Scheme, 2026”, aiming to ապահով long-term financial security and social protection for over 30,000 employees working in non-government schools and colleges across the state.

Described as a major reform in the education sector, the scheme seeks to extend structured provident fund and pension benefits to a wide range of employees. These include deficit teachers and lecturers, adhoc teachers, SSA and RMSA teachers, Hindi and Science Grant teachers, pre-primary teachers, as well as various categories of non-teaching staff.

The government stated that by bringing all these categories under a unified and professionally managed system, the scheme is expected to promote equity, transparency, and sustainability in employee welfare.

Officials informed that the response to the scheme has been encouraging, with the process of opening Permanent Retirement Account Numbers (PRANs) already underway in several parts of the state.

However, concerns have been raised by certain sections of employees, particularly those from deficit institutions. The matter is currently under consideration before the High Court of Meghalaya, with the government stating that it has already placed the notified scheme before the court and is awaiting its decision.

Meanwhile, the Education Department has invited representatives of concerned organisations for a meeting to discuss the issues and explore possible solutions. The meeting is scheduled to be held on May 6 at 3:00 PM at the Main Conference Hall, Secretariat.

The government reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the interests of all teachers and employees and assured that the implementation of the scheme will be carried out in a fair, transparent, and inclusive manner.
