JAC FORMED AT NEHU TO SAVE THE UNIVERSITY FROM IRREGULAR ACTS OF VC

Shillong, October 18 : The North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) and North-Eastern Hill University Non-Teaching Employees Association (NEHUNSA) have formed a Joint Action Committee (JAC) to save the university from the irregular acts of Vice-Chancellor Prof. P. S. Shukla.

The JAC is open to all stakeholders who are concerned about the future of NEHU and its lakhs of students. It has listed a number of issues, including the gross violation of the NEHU Act, 1973; the infringement of the authority of the Academic Council; the non-adherence to democratic procedures; the non-functioning of university facilities; the delay in appointment in statutory positions; the arbitrary and unilateral functioning of the Vice-Chancellor; and the inordinate delay in clearance of files, bills, and the non-delegation of powers.

The JAC has decided to take immediate action on priority basis on issues like the immediate convening of a requisitioned academic council meeting to discuss the Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) in colleges affiliated to NEHU; the removal of Rohit Prasad, who has been arbitrarily appointed by the Vice-Chancellor; and the relief of the Section Officer from the VC office.

The JAC has also urged the Vice-Chancellor to correct his ways and bring the university back to its right course as per the NEHU Act, Statutes, Ordinances, Regulation & Rules. It has also appealed to all stakeholders to pursue a line of democratic action to make the Vice-Chancellor listen to the demands of the community.
