Shillong, August 25: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) Central Body has urged the Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills to immediately postpone the proposed District Selection Committee (DSC) Grade-IV written examination, citing concerns over transparency and irregularities in the recruitment process.
In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, the JSU demanded that the latest recruitment notifications be kept in abeyance until the results of the previous Grade-IV recruitment cycle conducted in 2021 are declared and alleged irregularities are addressed.
The students’ body said candidates who had qualified in the 2021 Grade-IV written examination appeared for personal interviews in June 2026, but the final results have yet to be declared.
The JSU said it was unfair to initiate a fresh recruitment process while hundreds of candidates from the previous cycle continue to await their results.
The union also raised concerns over alleged anomalies in the DSC’s evaluation and shortlisting procedures. Referring to the Lower Division Assistant (LDA) recruitment, it claimed that candidates securing marks as low as three were called for personal interviews.
Similar concerns, it said, have been raised over the handling of Grade-IV marks, answer scripts and the criteria used for shortlisting candidates for interviews.
The JSU further pointed out that allegations relating to the fairness of DSC examinations are currently sub judice before the Meghalaya High Court and that the State Government has been directed to file an affidavit in connection with the matter.
“Proceeding with new examinations risks compounding existing legal complications,” the union said.
The JSU clarified that it is not opposed to recruitment or the selection of candidates, but maintained that the previous recruitment cycle should first be concluded in a fair and transparent manner before a fresh recruitment process for the same posts is undertaken.
Among its demands, the union called for the immediate postponement of the forthcoming Grade-IV written examination and cancellation or keeping in abeyance of the current recruitment notification until the previous cycle is completed.
It also demanded the early declaration of the complete and verified results of the 2021 Grade-IV DSC examination.
The JSU further urged the DSC to publish detailed mark breakdowns, cut-off lists and evaluation criteria for both written examinations and personal interviews to restore the confidence of candidates.
It also called for all ongoing and future recruitment processes to strictly comply with judicial propriety and any directions issued by the Meghalaya High Court.
The JSU expressed hope that the Deputy Commissioner’s office would take swift action and give sympathetic consideration to its demands in the interest of fairness and the welfare of unemployed youth in Jaintia Hills.
