Shillong, August 31: Police in East Khasi Hills on Monday produced four KSU leaders in court again in connection with the August 19 black-flag rally in Shillong, during which several untoward incidents were reported.
After learning that the police would produce the arrested leaders in court, members of the KSU Central Executive Council (CEC), former leaders and other current office-bearers gathered outside the court premises.
As the four leaders emerged from the court under police escort, current and former KSU leaders embraced them and offered words of encouragement.
Speaking to the media after the court proceedings, KSU President Raymond Kharjana said attempts to test or challenge the organisation’s leaders were a recurring feature whenever such agitations took place.
He said the organisation remained committed to its larger cause, describing the present situation as part of the struggle for the interests of the the indigenous community.
KSU General Secretary Reuben A. Najiar, meanwhile, said, “you may charge us now, as it is your time; we will respond when we come out,” Najiar said.
