KSU raises concern over one year delay in release of CM scholarship, urges CM intervention

Shillong, June 9: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), through its Education Cell, has expressed serious concern over the prolonged delay in the disbursement of the Chief Minister’s Scholarship (CM Scholarship) to eligible students across Meghalaya.

In a letter submitted to the Chief Minister on June 1, 2026, the union highlighted that more than a year has passed since many students completed their applications and fulfilled all the required criteria for the scholarship. Despite this, the beneficiaries have yet to receive the financial assistance meant to support their education.

According to the KSU, the delay has created significant hardship for numerous students who depend on the scholarship to continue their studies. The union stated that the prolonged wait has affected the academic prospects of many deserving students and raised concerns about the effectiveness of the scholarship disbursement process.

The KSU urged the Chief Minister to personally intervene and review the matter to ensure that the scholarship reaches all eligible beneficiaries without further delay. The union expressed confidence that, as the head of the state government, the Chief Minister would take the issue seriously, considering the importance of educational support for the state’s youth.

In its memorandum, the KSU also placed several demands before the Chief Minister. These include the immediate release of the pending CM Scholarship to all eligible students, including those who have been waiting for over a year; the publication of a clear timeline for scholarship disbursement to provide transparency and certainty to students; the establishment of a dedicated helpline or complaint mechanism for students facing issues related to the scholarship; and measures to ensure that such delays do not recur in future years.

The union stressed that timely disbursement of scholarships is crucial for the academic welfare and future of students. It appealed to the state government to address the matter urgently so that students are not deprived of the support that is rightfully due to them.
