Shillong, June 30 : Lakhs of pills and other medicines were seized by Meghalaya Awakening Concern Citizen (MACC) and Awakening India Movement (AIM) as they were disposed by Health Department at Marten yesterday. Four trucks of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) were found by the organisations ferrying the sacks of medicines. According to reports, the medicines were from the Medical Store of Ganesh Das Maternal & Child Health Hospital.
“If the medicines had expired, they should be given to the PHCs and CHCs for burning since they cannot be used again. We don’t know what is the reason for disposing. Proper clarifications will have to be seeked from District Health & Medical Officer (DM&HO), the Health Department and also the Minister of Health Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh”, said Banshai Marbaniang, of MACC.
