Shillong June 29 : A man has been arrested in Shillong for vandalizing ATMs in multiple locations. The man, who is 29 years old, has been accused of breaking into ATMs during load shedding hours and stealing cash. He has been arrested in connection with nine cases, and the total damage is estimated to be over Rs. 10 lakhs.
The man was arrested by a team from Rynjah P.S led by Dy. S.P (L&O) Jyoti Wahlang, MPS and ASP Dewansh Pandey, IPS. Preliminary interrogation has revealed that he committed the acts of crime in the ATMs at Madanrting, Laitumkhrah, Rynjah and Laban. The clothes, bag and umbrella which were used while committing the crime were seized from his house.
The accused person has been first arrested in connection with Madanrting PS Case No. 60(6)2023 U/S 427/380 IPC R/W Sec 3(2) (e) PDPP Act and forwarded to the court. Investigation will ascertain whether there are any other accomplices and modus operandi in opening ATMs.
