Tura, Apr, 18: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, on Saturday felicitated the achievers of the SSLC Examination 2026 from the Garo Hills region at a programme held at his residence in Tura.
The felicitation programme was organised to honour and recognise the outstanding academic achievements of students who excelled in this year’s SSLC examinations.
Congratulating the toppers on their hard work, dedication, and perseverance, the Chief Minister stated that their achievements are a matter of pride not only for their families but also for the entire region and the State.
Addressing the gathering, he encouraged the students to continue striving for excellence and to remain focused on their goals. He highlighted the importance of education in shaping the State’s future and urged students to contribute positively to society through their knowledge and skills.
He also acknowledged the role of parents, teachers, and educational institutions in nurturing and guiding students towards success, noting that the collective efforts of all stakeholders are crucial in building a strong foundation for quality education in Meghalaya.
“It is about supporting children when they need it the most. While education, course material, and all of this are important, we must focus on shaping children in the right direction, because doing so is key to shaping the future of the State and the country,” he said.
Referring to the inclement weather during the programme, he drew a parallel with life’s challenges, stating, “That is how challenges arise in life. What is important is to accept those challenges, work towards overcoming them, never give up, and always remain positive.”
Underscoring the importance of values and character, the Chief Minister said, “Nothing will matter—no success will matter in life—if, at the end of the day, you cannot be a good human being. You must always be humble, remain grounded, and never forget your roots.”
He further added, “Even if you are a topper but become arrogant in life, you will not have a fulfilling life. Without humility, without fear of God, and without respect for elders, there is no real quality in life.”
He concluded his address by thanking all those present and wishing the students and school authorities continued success in their future endeavours.
During the programme, the toppers were presented with certificates and tokens of appreciation in recognition of their achievements.
The event was attended by parents, teachers, and well-wishers, who lauded the accomplishments of the students and expressed gratitude to the State Government for its continued support towards education and youth development.
