Shillong, May 24: Renowned environmentalist from Meghalaya, Hally War, will be conferred the Padma Shri by the President of India during the Civil Investiture Ceremony-I scheduled to be held on May 25, 2026.
According to an official statement, Hally War is being honoured for his more than five decades of dedicated work in preserving the Khasi tradition of bio-weaving through the nurturing and conservation of the iconic Living Root Bridges in East Khasi Hills.
Through the unique indigenous practice, he has played a significant role in connecting remote villages, strengthening ecological balance and promoting sustainable living rooted in traditional knowledge systems.
Apart from his environmental contributions, Hally War has also guided local communities in preserving and carrying forward the living heritage while supporting sustainable tourism initiatives in the region.
The statement noted that his lifelong dedication serves as a strong example of harmony between humans and nature and highlights the importance of preserving indigenous wisdom for future generations.
