Meghalaya Govt Allows Retired Teachers, Lecturers to Withdraw Full CPF Amount

Shillong, May 5: The Meghalaya Government has decided to allow retired teachers and lecturers of aided schools and colleges to withdraw 100 percent of the accumulated amount under the newly notified Centralised Provident Fund (CPF) Scheme, 2026.

The decision was taken during a meeting convened by the Education Department with representatives of the Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association (MCTA), Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA), members of the Board of Trustees, and officials of the State Bank of India (SBI), which has been entrusted with implementing the Meghalaya Non-Government School and College Employees Centralised Provident Fund Scheme, 2026.

During the meeting, the MCTA informed that since the CPF matter is currently sub judice before the High Court of Meghalaya, the association would refrain from making detailed comments at this stage.

The KJDSTA raised concerns over the absence of representatives from other parts of the state, particularly Garo Hills, and suggested that discussions should presently remain confined to deficit teachers and lecturers. Taking note of the concerns, the Education Department decided to hold another round of consultations involving representatives from different regions of the state to ensure broader participation.

The All Meghalaya Primary School Teachers’ Association (AMPSTA) also requested the government to conduct awareness programmes on the provisions and operational aspects of the CPF Scheme. The department welcomed the suggestion and agreed that sensitisation programmes would benefit stakeholders.

The issue concerning retired teachers and lecturers was discussed extensively during the meeting. Following deliberations, the department instructed SBI officials to furnish detailed statements of all concerned employees by the 10th of this month. These statements will be verified by the respective Directorates before authorisation is issued to eligible retirees for withdrawal of the full CPF accumulation.

The government has requested all retired teachers and lecturers wishing to opt out of the CPF Scheme and withdraw the full accumulated amount to submit an undertaking to their respective District School Education Officer (DSEO) or the Directorate of Higher & Technical Education (DHTE).

The Education Department further stated that implementation and operationalisation of the CPF Scheme would await the outcome of the matter currently pending before the High Court of Meghalaya.
