Shillong, January 18 : In a first-of-its-kind collaboration, the Department of Commerce and Industries, Government of Meghalaya, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amazon India on 16th January 2026 at the Directorate of Commerce and Industries, Shillong, marking a milestone partnership aimed at empowering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the state .
The MoU was signed under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Scheme of the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MoMSME). As part of the agreement, the Meghalaya Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation (MHHDC), a public sector undertaking under the Department, will oversee business operations including product listings, cataloguing, and pricing on the Amazon platform .
Following the MoU signing, the Amazon India team conducted a workshop for over 100 MSMEs, introducing participants to the company’s flagship Karigar and Saheli initiatives, designed to support artisans, weavers, and women entrepreneurs. The Department also encouraged MSMEs to register on Amazon to boost product visibility and expand their reach, assuring continued handholding support to artisans for onboarding and collaboration.
Present at the event were Sarita Tiwari from Amazon, F. Sutgna, Director of Commerce & Industries, M.L. Wanshnong, Joint Director, Daphiralin Kharjana, Managing Director, MHHDC, and members of the RAMP SPIU.
Speaking on the occasion, Director F. Sutgna emphasized that the partnership with Amazon is expected to generate long-term value and significantly enhance market access for Meghalaya’s MSMEs, enabling local producers to showcase their craftsmanship on a global digital platform.
This collaboration marks a transformative step towards digital market integration, fostering sustainable growth and positioning Meghalaya’s artisans and entrepreneurs in the national and international marketplace.
