Shillong, January 7 : Meghalaya witnessed a sharp winter chill on Tuesday, with Mawkyrwat recording the lowest minimum temperature at -0.8°C, according to the Meteorological Centre, Shillong, in its minimum temperature map issued on 07.01.2026.
The State capital Shillong recorded a minimum of 4°C(down 0.9°C in 24 hours). Other key locations also reported low night temperatures, many showing a notable drop compared to the previous day.

- Mawsynram: 6.8°C (↓ 1.3°C)
- Sohra: 5.5°C (↓ 1.9°C)
- Tura: 10.6°C (↓ 0.6°C)
- Resubelpara: 13.4°C (↓ 1.4°C)
- Williamnagar:14.5°C (↑ 0.5°C)
- Ampati: 11.5°C (↑ 1.1°C)
Weather officials indicated that many stations across the State registered a fall in minimum temperature, suggesting cold conditions are likely to continue, especially in the higher and interior hill regions. Residents have been advised to take precautions during early morning and night hours.
