Meghalaya’s Palliative Care Services Earn National Recognition

Shillong, October 11 : Meghalaya’s palliative care services have earned national acclaim, securing Second Position across India for outstanding performance under the National Programme for Palliative Care (NPPC), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. This prestigious recognition was awarded during the World Hospice and Palliative Care Day 2025 celebration, held at the Bagchi – Karunashraya Palliative Care Centre in Bhubaneswar, Odisha today.

The acclaim was in recognition of the state’s exemplary efforts and best practices in delivering quality palliative care.

The Meghalaya Health Department has termed this national recognition as a validation of the state’s unwavering commitment to compassionate, patient-centric care. The Department noted that this achievement reflects Meghalaya’s effective implementation of innovative service delivery models that uphold comfort, dignity and quality of life for patients with serious and life-limiting conditions.Their collective efforts enabled the State Team to effectively showcase Meghalaya’s achievements before the Central Division and the Ministry of Health.

This milestone is the result of tireless teamwork by district health teams, healthcare professionals, and community health workers across Meghalaya. Their collective dedication has helped position the state as a national model for effective and humane palliative care delivery.
