Shillong, September 28 : North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) along with the NEHU Yuva Tourism Club celebrated World Tourism Day on September 27, 2023, with a focus on green investment.
The program commenced with a green walk around the campus to spread awareness about sustainability and green tourism. This was followed by a formal program at the Multi-use Convention Hall, NEHU, Shillong.
The program was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp, followed by a national anthem and a group song by the students from the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management.
After the inauguration, the Chairman of the Yuva Tourism Club, NEHU, Prof. Saurabh K. Dixit gave a briefing on the origins and importance of World Tourism Day. The HOD of Tourism and Hotel Management, NEHU, Dr. Benjamin F. Lyngdoh talked on green investment and climate change.
The Chief Guest of the program, Prof. D. K. Nayak, Department of Geography, NEHU, enlightened on the importance of sustainable tourism and how it can coexist harmoniously with green investment for a bright future.
The program ended with a vote of thanks by Prof. Sharad K. Kulshreshtha, Department of Tourism and Hotel Management. This was followed by a quiz competition for the students and food courts that sold indigenous dishes. Photographs and crafts made from waste were also displayed on site.
The event was a success in raising awareness about the importance of green investment for sustainable tourism.
