Shillong, November 09 : The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of NEHU has decided to intensify its ongoing agitation by calling an indefinite strike starting from 13th November 2023. The decision was taken at a meeting held on 9th November 2023.
The JAC has accused the Vice Chancellor of the university of adopting an adamant and non-responsive attitude towards its genuine demands. The demands include immediate removal of an illegally appointed Technical Officer/Senior Consultant, appointment of Statutory Officers and University Engineer, improvement of the deteriorating condition of the University Health Centre, relief of Teaching and Technical Staffs from Ministerial Duties, re-upload of NEHU Act, Statutes, and Ordinance in the NEHU Official Website, holding of Regular Convocation, reform of the Marking System, inclusion of Elected Members of NEHUSU as Representative in the Academic Council, and review of Educationally Backward Area Quota from Block Level to Village Level.
The JAC has exempted essential services such as bus services, water, electricity, health center, sections involved in recruitment process, and pension cell for receiving life certificate of pensioners only from the strike. All members of the JAC have been requested to be present in the university.
