OVERTAKING ON UMIAM BRIDGE DURING REPAIRS IS A NO-GO: POLICE WARN OF STRICT ACTION

Shillong, January 02 : As traffic resumes across the Umiam Bridge during ongoing repairs, the East Khasi Hills Police have issued a stern warning against overtaking. Despite phased one-way traffic implementation, motorists indulging in risky overtaking have led to renewed congestion.

In a public notice dated January 2nd, 2024, SP (City) Vivek Syiem, IPS, emphasized the need for caution and adherence to traffic rules. Overtaking on the bridge will not be tolerated, and violators will face strict legal consequences.

To further ease traffic flow, the police advise motorists to utilize the Shillong Bypass as an alternative route, especially when heading towards Umiam. This will help decongest the bridge approaches and ensure smoother passage for everyone.
