PATIENT’S HAND SWELLS AFTER ALLEGED WRONG INJECTION BY NURSE AT NEIGRIHMS

Shillong, April 23: A 43-year-old woman undergoing treatment at NEIGRIHMS Hospital has reportedly suffered severe swelling in her hand, allegedly due to a wrongly administered injection by a nurse. The patient, identified as Polina Phawa, a resident of Mawlai Mawïong, has been under treatment since April 18 when the incident occurred.

According to her sister, Banri Malngiang, the injection was administered by a male nurse. She claimed that the patient immediately complained of pain during the procedure, but the nurse allegedly ignored her and instead scolded them. She further stated that later, Khasi nurses intervened and provided treatment, and the patient’s hand has since been bandaged.

Following the incident, the family approached members of the Hynñiewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM). On Thursday, HANM members visited NEIGRIHMS and met the Medical Superintendent. They also visited the patient in the presence of the hospital authority.

HANM East Khasi Hills Joint Secretary Felso Jarain said that during discussions, the Medical Superintendent assured that the matter would be looked into. He further stated that there have been multiple complaints regarding alleged negligence by staff at NEIGRIHMS, and the organisation has taken up the issue to ensure such incidents do not recur in the future.
