Shillong, May 18: The Office of the District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills District, on Monday convened a meeting with representatives of recognised National and State political parties to brief them on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 of Electoral Rolls, as directed by the Election Commission of India.
The meeting was held in view of Meghalaya being included under Phase-III of the nationwide electoral roll revision exercise. Officials briefed the political parties on the objectives, timelines, operational procedures and stakeholder responsibilities related to the revision process. It was informed that East Khasi Hills currently has 17 Assembly Constituencies and 1,021 polling stations.
According to the schedule shared during the meeting, the qualifying date for the revision will be October 1, 2026. Preparation, training and printing activities will be conducted from June 20 to June 29, while house-to-house verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will take place from June 30 to July 29. The draft electoral roll will be published on August 5, claims and objections can be filed till September 4, and the final electoral roll will be published on October 7, 2026.
Officials also informed that the 2005 Electoral Roll will serve as the “Legacy Roll” for reference during the revision exercise, in line with the Election Commission’s guidelines. Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) will oversee the conduct, scrutiny and implementation of the exercise within their respective constituencies.
The meeting highlighted the role of BLOs in conducting house-to-house visits and urged political parties to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) in every polling station to ensure transparency and active participation throughout the process.
The Deputy Commissioner’s office will also write to Dorbar Shnongs across the district seeking their cooperation in spreading awareness about the revision exercise and assisting during BLO visits and hearings conducted by the EROs.
The District Election Officer appealed to all political parties, electors and stakeholders to cooperate with the election machinery to ensure a transparent, inclusive and time-bound completion of the Special Intensive Revision 2026 exercise.
