RS 146.79 CRORE APPROVED FOR FOUR-LANE ROAD IN NEW SHILLONG TOWNSHIP

Shillong, August 11 : The Union Government has approved a project worth Rs 146.79 crore under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE) scheme for the construction of a new four-lane road and conversion of an existing two-lane road into four-lane with cycling tracks, utility ducts, footpaths, etc. at New Shillong Township in Meghalaya.

The project is expected to improve connectivity and boost economic activity in the region. It will also help to decongest traffic in the area.

The PM-DevINE scheme was announced in the Union Budget 2022-23 with the aim of promoting balanced and inclusive growth in the North East region. The scheme will fund projects in the areas of infrastructure, social development, and livelihood.

Land is a State subject and the compensation for acquisition of land is dealt by the concerned State Governments as per the relevant Acts and Rules.
