Shillong, September 21: Personnel of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on Monday recovered the body of a young man who reportedly drowned in a small water body located on a private property at Mawdiangdiang, Shillong.
According to a press release issued by the Directorate of Civil Defence and Home Guards, the 1st SDRF Battalion, Shillong, was alerted by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), East Khasi Hills, at around 2:24 pm regarding the drowning incident. Following the alert, the SDRF team immediately left its headquarters at the Civil Defence and Home Guards Complex, Mawdiangdiang, and reached the site at around 2:35 pm.
Upon reaching the spot, the team was informed that the drowning incident had occurred at around noon. The SDRF personnel, led by Inspector S. Dkhar, subsequently launched a search and rescue operation.
The body of the young man was recovered at approximately 3 pm in the presence of personnel from Mawdiangdiang Outpost and the local headman. The body was later handed over to the police for necessary legal formalities.
