Shillong, September 17: The Department of Pharmacology at Shillong Medical College organised a sensitisation and hands-on training programme on adverse drug reaction (ADR) reporting as part of the sixth National Pharmacovigilance Week 2026.
Doctors, nurses and pharmacists from Civil Hospital Shillong, Ganesh Das Government Maternal and Child Health Hospital and NEIGRIHMS attended the programme along with faculty members of Shillong Medical College.
Addressing the gathering, Shillong Medical College Director Dr Nicola C. Lyngdoh Iangrai highlighted the importance of medication safety and timely reporting of adverse drug reactions.
Dr Maxilline D. Marak conducted a scientific session on adverse drug reactions, while Dr Reuben P. Syiem spoke on pharmacovigilance and practical ADR reporting.
The programme also included case-based training during which participants identified suspected adverse reactions and medicines and practised completing ADR reporting forms.
Speakers emphasised that reporting adverse drug reactions is a shared responsibility of healthcare professionals and that better reporting can strengthen medication safety, promote the rational use of medicines and improve patient care.
The programme concluded with an appeal to healthcare professionals to report every suspected adverse drug reaction, noting that each report could contribute to safer medicines, patients and healthcare.
