SHILLONG GEARS UP FOR SAFE FESTIVE SEASON: CRACKDOWN ON DRUNK DRIVING BEGINS!

Shillong, December 20: As the festive season kicks into high gear, the Shillong Traffic Police (STP) is putting the pedal to the metal on safety. To curb drunk driving and dangerous driving, vigorous checking drives will be conducted throughout Shillong City, including bypasses, highways, and locality roads.

“Ensuring safe driving and reducing road crash casualties during the festive season is our top priority,” declared Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem. The STP will be intensifying its focus on detecting drunk and dangerous driving in addition to other Motor Vehicle Act violations.

Anyone caught driving under the influence of alcohol exceeding the permissible limit (30 mg per 100 ml of blood) faces hefty consequences. Under Section 185 of the MV Act, violators can be slapped with a fine of ₹10,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or even both.

“We urge motorists to prioritize safety and make responsible choices this festive season,” appealed SP Syiem. “Abstain from drinking and driving to ensure your own safety and the safety of others on the road.”
