SHILLONG POLICE AND RANGBAH SHNONGS JOIN FORCES TO CRACK DOWN ON ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES IN LAWMALI

Drug Peddling, Alcohol Consumption, and Loitering to Be Strictly Prohibited

Shillong, November 14 : In a bid to crack down on rampant illegal activities inside and around the graveyard and forest areas at Lawmali, the Shillong Police held a joint meeting with Rangbah Shnongs and Dorbar Members of Riatsamthiah, Wahingdoh, Jaiaw Shyiap, Jaiaw Mihngi, and Mawlai Phudmuri on November 13, 2023, at the Police Reserve Conference Hall, Shillong.

The meeting was convened by the Superintendent of Police, Shillong City, and was attended by Sector Police Officers, the In-Charge of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), and Officers-in-Charge and In-Charge of Police Stations and Beat Houses of Shillong City.

The meeting passed a resolution that such illegal activities, including loitering inside the forests of Lawmali, drug peddling, and consumption of drugs and alcohol, will not be tolerated. Anyone found involved in such activities will be arrested and legal action will be taken.

To prevent the entry of anti-social elements into the area at night, the meeting decided to take up the matter of fencing and construction of a gate with the Forest Department.

Other measures such as booking those involved in illegal activities at night in and around the area or found consuming alcohol or drugs inside vehicles by the roadside shall be booked under Section 110 of Meghalaya Police Act and the NDPS Act, as the case may be.

The Shillong Police expressed its appreciation to the members of the above Durbars Shnongs for their initiative to jointly tackle the problem.
