SPEAKER INSPECTS NEW ASSEMBLY BUILDING CONSTRUCTION, EMPHASIZES DESIGN AND HERITAGE

Shillong, September 19 : The Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Thomas A Sangma, conducted a review meeting and inspection of the ongoing construction of the new Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang on Thursday. The meeting aimed to assess the project’s progress and ensure its timely completion.

During the inspection, the Speaker expressed satisfaction with the overall progress, though he noted that the project is slightly behind schedule. The original target completion date was September 30, 2024, but the Speaker anticipates a slight delay.

A key focus of the meeting was to ensure that the building’s design and surroundings are in harmony with the natural environment. The Speaker directed various departments to incorporate green spaces and cultural elements into the design. The Arts and Culture Department will be responsible for designing the interiors, including a depiction of Meghalaya’s history and culture.

The Speaker also addressed concerns about the construction workforce, stating that sufficient workers are now on site and more are expected to join soon. He expressed confidence that the dome sphere, a key architectural feature, will be completed on time.

Overall, the meeting was considered a success, with the Speaker commending the cooperation of various departments involved in the project. He assured that safety measures are being strictly adhered to to prevent accidents.
