Shillong, May 17: The 2nd DUBAKH Scholastic Basketball League 2026 concluded successfully at the Pearly Dew School Basketball Court in Jaiaw Laitdom, Shillong, after weeks of competition involving school and college teams from across Meghalaya.
Organised by DUBAKH Sports Pvt Ltd, the league brought together 16 school and college teams and more than 190 student-athletes with the objective of promoting grassroots basketball development and spreading awareness against drug abuse among youth.
The tournament was organised in partnership with DREAM Meghalaya under the Social Welfare Department, Government of Meghalaya, along with support from U Matter, Vector X and DB Fast Food.
In the girls’ final, St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School emerged champions after defeating Mylliem Presbyterian Higher Secondary School by 36–16. St. Mary’s dominated the match with disciplined defence and coordinated teamwork.
The boys’ final witnessed a closely contested encounter between Shillong Commerce College and Thomas Jones Synod College. Shillong Commerce College narrowly secured the championship title with a dramatic 38–37 victory.
The winners in both categories received cash prizes of ₹10,000, while the runners-up were awarded ₹5,000 along with trophies and medals.
The closing ceremony was attended by representatives from DREAM Meghalaya, the East Khasi Hills District Basketball Association, BSF Shillong, U Matter and other supporters of youth and sports development.
Speakers at the event highlighted the importance of sports in promoting discipline, mental wellness, positive youth engagement and awareness against substance abuse.
The organisers thanked participating institutions, sponsors, coaches, volunteers and supporters for contributing to the successful conduct of the tournament and reiterated their commitment towards strengthening basketball culture and youth sporting opportunities in Meghalaya.
