Shillong, October 26 : The IIM Shillong, has a long-standing tradition of organizing TED talks that have consistently inspired and transformed the minds of its students. In 2014, a remarkable achievement by an IIM Shillong student saw them secure a scholarship to attend the prestigious TEDGlobal Conference in Rio, Brazil, setting the stage for the institution’s continued engagement with TED.
IIM Shillong hosted TEDx, a platform where the power of ideas met the enthusiasm of young, brilliant minds. This year’s event, held under the theme ‘Solitude to Solidarity: The Evolution and Significance of Communities,’ delved into the captivating exploration of the pivotal role that communities play in shaping society, fostering innovation, and promoting resilience.
TEDx IIM Shillong 2023 extended an open invitation to attendees to embrace the diversity of ideas that communities inspire and discover the profound influence communities wield in igniting inspiration, driving positive change, and encouraging individuals to express their unique selves. The event featured a stellar lineup of speakers from diverse fields, each a master in their own domain.
The distinguished speakers at TEDx IIM Shillong 2023 included:
- Sunita Bhuyan: A renowned Indian violinist, HR professional, music maestro, consultant, and teacher, who instills wellness, leadership, and change through the medium of music.
- AVM Kaushik Chatterjee: A Principal Medical Officer in the Eastern Air Command of the Indian Air Force, who is also a psychiatrist, researcher, and professor.
- Subhajit Mukherjee: An environmentalist credited with driving the mass movement of ‘Tree Plantation’ in and around Mumbai. His incredible efforts have led to the planting of over 63,000 trees, earning him the title of ‘The Green Man of Mumbai.’
- Swasti Saraogi: A sustainability strategy expert currently working as a Growth Lead at Robin Hood Army. Her passion for social impact has driven her active involvement in several initiatives aimed at reducing hunger and poverty in India.
- Shyamal Datta: A photographer recognized among the 101 World’s Best Photographers in the International Portrait Photography Award 2023.
- Atsi Jamir: The founder and owner of Farmer Square Café in the Dimapur district of Nagaland, informally known as the “Coffee Lady of Nagaland,” offering freshly ground coffee to customers amid an eco-friendly, pristine environment.
- Harsh Pamnani: A well-known business storyteller, branding consultant, and author of two best-selling books. He is also a TEDx speaker and has delivered seven talks on various topics related to branding and storytelling.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations).
The TEDx initiative has consistently demonstrated its commitment to nurturing the intellectual and creative potential of students and young minds. Since its inception in 2008, the event has grown in stature and reputation, attracting exemplary speakers and recognition from esteemed institutions.
