Shillong, July 25: Incidents of theft continue to rise across Shillong, with cases being reported from various localities and occurring even during broad daylight, raising concerns over the safety and security of residents.
In recent days, thieves have reportedly become increasingly brazen, damaging and breaking into vehicles and other property in order to steal valuables. Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to safeguard their belongings.
On Friday night, two vehicles parked at Barik Point near Step by Step School, Shillong were reportedly broken into by thieves. The windows of both vehicles were smashed, and the thieves allegedly took away belongings kept inside.
In another incident, a suspected vehicle thief was caught by local residents of Laban on Friday morning after he allegedly attempted to steal a tyre from a vehicle parked along the roadside.
The incident occurred at Upper Kench’s Trace in Lumshatsngi. A young man reportedly recorded the incident on video as the suspect was allegedly trying to remove the vehicle’s tyre, following which local residents managed to catch hold of him.
