Three Drug Traffickers Arrested, 53 Grams of Suspected Heroin Seized in West Garo Hills

Shillong, June 16: The Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Meghalaya, has arrested three alleged drug traffickers and seized 53 grams of suspected heroin during a naka operation conducted at Tikrikilla in West Garo Hills district.

According to a press release issued by the ANTF, the operation was carried out on June 15 based on credible intelligence inputs. During the search conducted under the provisions of the NDPS Act, the team recovered five plastic soap boxes containing suspected heroin weighing a total of 53 grams, along with two motorcycles and three mobile phones.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Sahidul Hussain (35) of Gumaijhar, Simlabari in Assam’s Goalpara district, Saddam Hussain (35) of Rajmita Pantai under Lakhipur Police Station, Goalpara district, and Rashidul Hoque (23) of Chataimari under Lakhipur Police Station, Goalpara district.

Police said a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Tikrikilla Police Station. Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused may be linked to a larger interstate drug trafficking network operating across the region.

The ANTF is currently investigating the case to establish both forward and backward linkages and identify other individuals involved in the trafficking syndicate.

The agency has also appealed to the public to share any information related to the accused, their associates, or any drug trafficking activities. Officials assured that the identity of informants will be kept confidential and suitable rewards will be provided for credible information leading to further action.

The latest operation forms part of Meghalaya Police’s ongoing crackdown against narcotics trafficking in the state.
