Shillong, August 27: A worker who was allegedly abducted by suspected Bangladeshi nationals at Wahkoh was found injured by a police team after an incident reported at Umkiang in East Jaintia Hills district on August 26, 2026.
According to police, Basil Khonglah appeared at the Umkiang Police Patrol Post (PPP) and verbally reported that his worker, Kornal Ahmed, had allegedly been abducted at Wahkoh.
Following the report, a police team from Umkiang was immediately dispatched to the area. Ahmed was subsequently found injured on the roadside with a deep wound on his right wrist. He was taken to the Umkiang Primary Health Centre (PHC) for medical treatment.
During the preliminary enquiry, police learnt that Ahmed had travelled to Wahkoh along with Gopal Marak and Jakir Hussain to collect Rs 2 lakh on the instructions of one Allim Uddin of Jalalpur, Assam.
Police subsequently detained Gopal Marak at Pyrtakuna. During questioning, he reportedly disclosed that Allim had instructed them to proceed to Wahkoh and had provided the contact number of the person from whom the money was to be collected.
On reaching Wahkoh, Ahmed reportedly approached the contact persons. Meanwhile, around three to five unidentified persons allegedly emerged from the jungle, armed with machetes, and forcibly took hold of him. Gopal Marak and Jakir Hussain reportedly fled the spot towards Umkiang.
The matter remains under police enquiry.
