MCA Rejects Player’s Apology, Condemns “Defamatory” Allegations

Shillong, August 7 : The Apex Council of the Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) today met to address what it termed as “baseless and unsubstantiated allegations” made by a player who failed to qualify for the state’s senior team. The player, identified as Divension Lyngdoh, had publicly accused the association of discrimination after being dropped from the selection process for the second phase of trials.

According to an MCA press release, Lyngdoh, who was recommended by the South West Khasi Hills District Cricket Association, made the allegations through print, electronic, and social media on July 25, 2025. The MCA’s Apex Council stated that these “unethical allegations” amounted to gross indiscipline and were an attempt to deflect from his own performance deficiencies.

While the council noted that the player had since apologized, it resolved that the apology was “not fully acceptable and tenable.” The association argued that the allegations had already damaged the reputation and goodwill of the MCA, its officials, and independent selectors. The press release emphasized that such unfounded claims create unwarranted confusion and doubt about the integrity and transparency of the selection process.

The MCA reiterated that its selection process is conducted by a dedicated committee under strict guidelines and a Standard Operating Procedure. It pointed out that individual performances during trials are recorded in specific apps, allowing for complete transparency and accountability. The council concluded that Lyngdoh’s allegations were a “pure case of frustration” stemming from his inability to perform.

In a firm message to other players, the Apex Council resolved that any future negative and unsubstantiated allegations related to non-selection due to lack of performance would be viewed seriously and treated as an act of defamation. The association is committed to maintaining discipline and transparency while promoting cricket in the state.
