Shillong, August 12 : The Meghalaya State Geological Programming Board convened its 50th meeting today, chaired by B.S. Sohliya, IAS, Secretary of the Mining and Geology Department, Government of Meghalaya. The meeting focused on reviewing past projects and outlining future initiatives to ensure the sustainable management of the state’s geological and mineral resources.
The meeting was attended by a distinguished panel of experts and officials, including M.B. Tongper, Director of the Department of Mining and Geology (DMR), Dr. S.K. Kulshreshtha, Deputy Director General of the Geological Survey of India, and Kuldeep Baruah Gupta, Deputy General Manager (Geology) of ONGC, among others.
Attendees reviewed projects completed over the past year, highlighting significant achievements and areas for improvement. Looking ahead, the board presented plans for new projects for the 2025-26 period, which aim to enhance sustainable resource management and promote further geological research and exploration in Meghalaya.
Chairman Sohliya emphasized the critical importance of collaboration among various stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of projects that contribute to both the state’s economic growth and environmental protection. He stressed the need for regular meetings between departments to share geological investigation data and increase mineral exploration efforts, which would ultimately contribute to the overall GDP of the state.
