Chief Minister Inaugurates New Building of Manai Higher Secondary School

Shillong, August 12 : Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K. Sangma, today inaugurated the newly constructed building of Manai Higher Secondary School at Mairang. The event also marked the school’s official upgradation to the Higher Secondary level, bringing expanded learning opportunities for students in the area.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister reflected on the progress made since his first visit nearly two decades ago, when the school building was a modest Assam-type structure. He commended the dedication of past and present managing committees, teachers, and the local community in overcoming challenges to provide quality education to the youth.

He also outlined the State Government’s financial commitment to education, sharing that Meghalaya currently spends over ₹1,100 crore annually in grants to aided schools. While acknowledging fiscal challenges, he emphasized efforts to rationalize support towards schools demonstrating strong results like Manai Higher Secondary School. He also encouraged the school to leverage government schemes and special development funds to enhance infrastructure, digital learning and extracurricular activities including music and sports.

Meanwhile, MLA and Chairman of the Meghalaya State Planning Board, Metbah Lyngdoh, spoke of the visionary efforts by community leaders 44 years ago to establish the school for the benefit of students from Manai and surrounding villages.

He acknowledged the ongoing need for further development but praised the community participation and government collaboration in advancing educational goals.

The occasion was also graced by Abu Taher Mondal, Minister of Community & Rural Development Department; Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh, Minister of Health & Family Welfare Department; along with other dignitaries.
