Chief Minister inaugurates Development and Healthcare Facilities in Eastern West Khasi Hills

Shillong, August 12 : Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, today inaugurated the Block Integrated Development Complex at the Mairang C&RD Block Office in Eastern West Khasi Hills District, alongside upgraded healthcare facilities at Tirot Sing Memorial Hospital, Mairang.

These include the Sick New Born Care Unit (SNCU), Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Adult Intensive Care Unit (AICU), and High Dependency Unit (HDU)—all designed to strengthen local healthcare services and reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for treatment.

The event Block Integrated Development Complex was inaugurated by Marborsing Marbaniang, Traditional Artist and North East Young Talent Artistes Awardee in the presence of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma; Abu Taher Mondal, Minister of Community & Rural Development Department; Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh, Minister of Health & Family Welfare Department; Shakliar Warjri, MLA 31-Mawthadraishan AC & Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs Department; Metbah Lyngdoh, MLA 30-Mairang AC & Chairman, State Planning Board; Sibhi Chakravarthy Sadhu, IAS, Secretary & Director, C&RD Department; Anita Kharpor, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Eastern West Khasi Hills District and Dr. Laureate R. Hynniewta, MCS, Block Development Officer, Mairang C&RD Block.

In his address to the gathering, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s dedication to bringing essential services closer to the people and ensuring equitable development across all districts. He noted that these initiatives are part of a broader strategy to improve public service delivery, upgrade healthcare infrastructure, and promote balanced socio-economic growth.

He also outlined major investments made over the past seven years and announced plans for a new DC office in Mairang, a district Convention Center, improved street lighting, the Shillong Secretariat Project in Mawdiangdiang, support for traditional institutions like Hima Nongklaw, tourism opportunities through CM Elevate and expansion of PMAY (Awas Plus) to include 2.8 lakh new beneficiaries.

Abu Taher Mondal spoke of the importance of collaborative governance in realizing these achievements while Shakliar Warjri stressed on how integrated development boosts both health and youth-related outcomes.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh commended this milestone in healthcare transformation and lauded the medical team for their commitment. She described the day as not only the inauguration of facilities but the continuation of a vision for accessible healthcare across Meghalaya.

Metbah Lyngdoh reflected on district formation and advocated for infrastructure upgrades, including road enhancement and lighting improvements.

In her address, Dr. Kharsahnoh noted that the newly established critical care units will strengthen both neonatal and adult healthcare services in the district, helping to reduce infant and maternal mortality rates and improve patient outcomes.

She emphasized that the facilities will reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for treatment, lower healthcare costs, and make specialized care more accessible to local residents as well as those in neighboring districts.

The Block Integrated Development Complex will enhance administrative efficiency, while the new healthcare units—SNCU, PICU, AICU, and HDU—are equipped with up-to-date medical technology and staffed by trained professionals, making quality healthcare more accessible for residents of Eastern West Khasi Hills and beyond.
