Wallambok Lyngdoh Elected to Governing Council of Indian Mountaineering Foundation

Shillong, Nov, 16: The General Secretary of the Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association (MeSCMA), Wallambok Lyngdoh, has been elected as a member of the Governing Council (GC) of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF).

The election was held on November 14, 2025, during the 61st Annual General Body Meeting of the IMF at its campus in New Delhi.

The IMF, India’s apex body for mountaineering and allied adventure sports, functions under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It also oversees sport climbing at the national and international level, including major global events such as the Asian Games and the Olympics, and is affiliated with the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC).

A total of 16 prominent mountaineers contested the election, out of which 11 members were elected to the Governing Council. The newly elected body will serve a two-year term (2025–2027) along with the new IMF President, Col. Vijay Singh, VSM (Retd.).

The elected GC members are: Prem Singh (Retd. IG, ITBP), Debraj Dutta (Kolkata), Wallambok Lyngdoh (Meghalaya), Col. Anand Swaroop (Retd.), Harbhajan Singh (Retd. IG, ITBP), M.R. Vijayraghavan (Karnataka), K. Saraswati (Maharashtra), Yambem Laba (Manipur), Debabrata Mukherjee (Kolkata), Keerthi Pais (Karnataka) and Group Captain R.C. Tripathi, VM (G) (Retd.).

MeSCMA said Lyngdoh’s election to the Governing Council will greatly benefit the association and the state by boosting the promotion of mountaineering and sport climbing. 

His presence in the national body is also expected to further elevate the representation and visibility of the North-East region in India’s adventure-sports landscape.
