KSU Apprehends Suspected Illegal Migrants in South West Khasi Hills

Mawkyrwat, April 15 : Members of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) from the Photjaud Rangthong, along with the Nonglang Unit, apprehended a group of non-local individuals, including women and children, on Tuesday while they were reportedly on their way to Nongjri in South West Khasi Hills district.

According to the KSU, the individuals were intercepted during routine vigilance and were unable to produce valid identification or documents to verify their origin. Upon questioning, the group allegedly claimed they had been sent by an individual identified as Gigur Myrthong. Based on their statements and communication, the KSU suspects that the individuals may have originated from Bangladesh.

Following the apprehension, the KSU handed over the group to the police at Mawkyrwat Police Station for further investigation and necessary legal action.

The organisation also issued a stern warning to the alleged facilitator, accusing him of acting as an agent involved in the illegal entry of Bangladeshi nationals into the state. The KSU cautioned that strict action would be taken if such activities continue.

The operation was led by members of the KSU Photjaud Rangthong and the KSU Nonglang Unit as part of their ongoing efforts to monitor and prevent illegal infiltration in the region.
