BSF Rescues Minor Girl After Electric Shock in South Garo Hills

Shillong, April 15: The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya Frontier successfully rescued a minor girl who sustained serious injuries following an electric shock incident in South Garo Hills.

According to a press release issued by BSF, the incident occurred on April 7, 2026, at around 11:30 am, when a 10-year-old girl, identified as Nikhami N. Marak, accidentally came into contact with a live electric pole at a construction site near the Rongra River. She is the daughter of Lithon D. Sangma and a resident of Rongra Bolgiske village.

On receiving a distress call, BSF personnel from BOP Rongra immediately rushed to the spot. Demonstrating quick response and presence of mind, the troops alerted the Electricity Department to disconnect the power supply, thereby preventing further danger.

The injured girl was promptly evacuated to Rongra Primary Health Centre (PHC) for initial treatment. After receiving first aid, she was referred for further medical care and was shifted to Baghmara Government Hospital in a BSF ambulance, accompanied by a nursing assistant and her family members.

Officials stated that the timely intervention of BSF personnel ensured immediate medical assistance and helped avert a potentially life-threatening situation.

The BSF reiterated its commitment to humanitarian service, stating that it will continue to support and assist local communities in times of need.
