Murder Case in East Garo Hills: 15 Arrested, Search On for One More Accused

Shillong, April 15: East Garo Hills Police have arrested 15 persons in connection with a murder case reported at Songsak Police Station, following an incident that occurred on April 8, 2026, at Dagal Nachikol under Songsak jurisdiction.

According to an official press release issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, the case pertains to the death of one Talseng T. Sangma, a resident of Dagal Nachikol, who was allegedly assaulted by a group of individuals inside his residential compound at around 11:00 AM.

The victim sustained grievous injuries during the assault and later succumbed to his injuries while being taken to Civil Hospital, Williamnagar. Police stated that the accused reportedly entered the compound unlawfully and also threatened the victim’s family.

In connection with the incident, a case has been registered at Songsak Police Station (Case No. 9/2026) under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). All legal formalities, including inquest and post-mortem examination, have been completed.

Police informed that out of the 16 accused named in the FIR, 15 have already been arrested, while search operations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accused.

The East Garo Hills District Police has appealed to the public not to spread rumours or misinformation, as the investigation is still underway. Authorities have also urged anyone with relevant information to contact the Police Control Room.
