NESO Raises Alarm Over Continued Violence in Manipur, Seeks Urgent Intervention

Shillong, April 27: The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) has expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence in Manipur, calling the situation a grave humanitarian crisis and urging immediate intervention by both state and central authorities.

In a press release issued on April 25, NESO said it is “deeply disturbed” by the recurring cycle of violence and bloodshed in the state, which continues to claim innocent lives and disrupt peaceful coexistence.

The organisation noted that repeated attacks on unarmed civilians pose a serious threat to human dignity, safety, and the fundamental right to live in peace. It added that the prolonged unrest has caused immense suffering, leaving families and communities in grief, fear, and uncertainty.

NESO extended condolences to the families of victims and expressed solidarity with those affected, stating that the pain of Manipur is shared across the entire Northeast region.

Questioning the inability of authorities to restore peace, NESO said the continued failure to bring normalcy reflects a “deeply concerning lapse in governance and responsibility.” The organisation called for immediate, fair, and transparent action to stop further escalation of violence.

It further demanded that those responsible for the violence be identified and held accountable under the law to restore public confidence.

Appealing for calm, NESO urged all communities and stakeholders to exercise restraint and commit to peaceful dialogue, emphasizing that violence cannot resolve the crisis.

Reiterating its commitment, NESO said it will continue to support peace initiatives in the region, stressing that restoring peace in Manipur is both a regional necessity and a moral imperative.
