Shillong, May 20: An internal review meeting on the progress of the new Meghalaya Legislative Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Parliamentary Affairs Prestone Tynsong, along with consultants, the Project Management Consultant (PMC), and officials from various departments including the Public Works Department (PWD), IT Cell and National Informatics Centre (NIC). Also present were Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Secretary Malthus S. Sangma and Adviser (Legislation) Dr. Andrew Simons.
During the meeting, the progress of construction and related works of the new Assembly building was reviewed in detail. Following the assessment, the Speaker said the progress of work was satisfactory and expressed confidence that the project would be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
Responding to a recent viral video concerning the roof of the new Assembly building, Thomas A. Sangma said the matter had been blown out of proportion and termed the development unfortunate. While welcoming constructive criticism, he urged members of the public to refrain from sharing or posting unverified content that could create misconceptions and bring disrepute to the institution of the Legislative Assembly.
