Meghalaya Launches MBOSE Digital Reforms, CM LEAD Fellowship and Flags Off 27 Education Department Vehicles

TURA, MAY 23: The Meghalaya Government on Friday launched a series of major education initiatives, including new digital reforms for the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE), the Chief Minister’s Leadership in Education and Development (CM LEAD) Fellowship, and flagged off 27 vehicles for the Education Department during a programme held at Matchakolgre LP School playground in Tura.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma flagged off the 27 vehicles allotted to the Additional Director of School Education & Literacy (Addl. DSEL), District School Education Officers (DSEOs) and Sub-Divisional School Education Officers (SDSEOs) to strengthen field-level mobility and monitoring, especially in rural and remote areas.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said education remains a top priority for the government and acknowledged the complexities of Meghalaya’s education system, which includes nearly 55,000 teachers and a large number of schools across the state. He highlighted the government’s decision to allocate an additional ₹215 crore annually to address long-standing issues faced by SSA teachers, stating that the move was aimed at providing dignity, stability and long-term security to teachers.

Sangma also informed that the state is currently spending around ₹3,500 crore on education and supporting nearly 4,500 grant-in-aid schools with a focus on improving the quality of education. Referring to the recent SSLC results, he noted that Meghalaya recorded an overall pass percentage of 97.26 per cent for the first time and stressed the need to shift from a marks-based approach towards conceptual learning.

During the programme, the Chief Minister launched two new software platforms for MBOSE — the E-Office Management System and the Accounting System Software — aimed at strengthening digital governance, accountability and service delivery within the education system. The event also witnessed the launch of the Meghalaya Chief Minister’s Leadership in Education and Development Fellowship (CM LEAD), which has been introduced to strengthen classroom learning and improve overall effectiveness across nearly 8,000 government and government-aided schools in the state.

Commissioner and Secretary of the Education Department, Vijay Kumar Mantri, said the newly introduced structured pay framework would provide long-term stability and security to teachers across Meghalaya. The government stated that the initiatives reflect Meghalaya’s commitment towards transforming the education sector through financial support, digital governance reforms, teacher empowerment and stronger grassroots administration.
