Shillong, June 2: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday met representatives of several organisations, associations, community groups and stakeholders at his official residence in Shillong to discuss a wide range of issues concerning welfare, development, employment, industry, education and community interests.
Among those who called on the Chief Minister were representatives of Synod Sepngi and Mawphlang Presbytery, Holy Eucharist Church, The Lou Majaw Foundation, and noted woodcraft artist Gilford Pde of Jowai. Discussions focused on church-related events, cultural initiatives, promotion of arts and crafts, environmental activities and requests for government support.
The Chief Minister also held meetings with delegations from the Meghalaya ASHA Workers Union, All Meghalaya Grade IV Government Employees Association, Meghalaya Election Enumerators’ Service Association (MEESA), and teacher trainees of DIET. The delegations raised concerns relating to welfare measures, honorarium, service matters, infrastructure requirements, sports-related issues and pending educational stipends.
Representatives of the Bosco Integrated Development Society briefed the Chief Minister on various development initiatives and community projects being implemented across different parts of the state.
In subsequent meetings, the Chief Minister interacted with representatives of the Meghalaya Poultry Farmers and Welfare Association, All Khasi Hills A·chik Federation, Khasi Jaintia Government Contractors and Suppliers Association, Jaintia Hills Cement Manufacturers Association, Hynniewtrep Youth Development Council and Hynniewtrep Border Dispute Redressal Forum.
The discussions covered issues relating to employment generation, industrial growth, recruitment concerns, contractors’ issues, labour welfare, youth employment opportunities and matters affecting border villages.
Assuring the delegations of the government’s commitment to addressing public concerns, Sangma said the state government would examine the issues raised during the meetings. He reiterated the government’s focus on inclusive development, responsive governance and continuous engagement with citizens and organisations.
The meetings were part of the government’s ongoing efforts to maintain close interaction with various sections of society and ensure that public concerns are addressed through constructive dialogue and consultation.
