Two Suspected Bike Thieves Arrested in Shillong; Tools, Cash Seized

Shillong, June 2: Two suspected bike thieves, who were reportedly wanted in connection with multiple motorcycle theft cases in Shillong, were apprehended by a special team from the Pasteur Beat House at Polo.

The accused have been identified as Cornelius Mukhim alias Bryan (20), a resident of Mawlai Mawroh, Shillong, and Meshanki Lamare (21), a resident of Sapai, Jowai.

According to police, the duo is suspected to have been involved in a series of motorcycle thefts in Shillong, with the stolen vehicles allegedly being transported towards the Bangladesh border.

During the operation, police recovered several items from their possession, including a Taparia Torx key set, a Taparia Allen key set, two wire stripper pliers, a Taparia screwdriver, cash amounting to ₹19,500, a black metal gun-shaped lighter, and two Nike sling bags.

The seized items include:

  • Taparia Torx Key Set (9-piece) with red and blue plastic cover
  • Taparia Allen Key Set (9-piece) with bright green plastic cover
  • Two wire stripper pliers (red and bright green)
  • Taparia screwdriver with green handle
  • Cash amounting to ₹19,500
  • Black metal gun-shaped lighter marked “Xin.Shi.Ji. Made in Jian.Chen JC”
  • Blue Nike sling bag
  • Black Nike sling bag

Police are continuing their investigation into the case and are examining the suspects’ possible involvement in other vehicle theft incidents.

The accused are scheduled to be produced before the court on Wednesday.
