Shillong, June 13: Thousands of members of the Naga community residing in Shillong came together on Saturday to demonstrate solidarity and grief by holding a candlelight vigil at Khyndailad in memory of six Nagas who were allegedly abducted and later killed by Kuki militants in Manipur.
The candlelight gathering was organized by the Naga Elders Forum Shillong (NEFS). The six victims were identified as Pr. Kenphibou, Rev. Manu, Phenronwibou, Phenrilinbou, Dilip, and Kaliwangou.
According to reports, the bodies of the six Naga men were recovered from Kharam Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district of Manipur. The recovery was made 24 hours after a joint search operation conducted by the police, assisted by personnel from the CRPF and Assam Rifles, who had been searching for the victims following their reported abduction.
During the vigil, members of the Naga community expressed deep sorrow over the killings and paid tribute to the deceased by lighting candles and offering prayers.
Leaders of the Forum strongly condemned the incident and urged the Government of India and the Manipur Government to immediately arrest those responsible for the killings. They also demanded strict punishment for all individuals involved in what they described as the brutal and unlawful taking of the lives of the six Naga victims.
The gathering served as a united call for justice and highlighted the growing concern among the Naga community over the continuing violence and instability in parts of Manipur.
