Shillong, June 29: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Meghalaya carried out two separate anti-drug operations in Shillong, leading to the seizure of over 21 grams of suspected heroin and the arrest of four alleged drug peddlers.
In the first operation, acting on specific intelligence inputs, ANTF personnel conducted a late-night raid on Saturday at a residence in Them Iewmawlong, Shillong. As police approached the premises, local residents allegedly attempted to obstruct the operation by gathering on the road, shouting slogans and creating disturbances. However, with the timely intervention of the Special Operation Team (SOT), the situation was brought under control, allowing the search to proceed.
During the raid, police recovered 77 soap cases containing suspected heroin weighing 5.92 grams and one soap box containing another 9.27 grams. The total quantity of the suspected contraband seized from the house was 15.19 grams.
The drugs were reportedly recovered from the residence of Chiman Masih and his wife, Rani Masih. Both were taken to the Cantonment Beat House for further interrogation as part of the ongoing investigation.
In another operation, ANTF personnel tracked the movements of a suspected drug peddler from morning until late Sunday evening. At around 9 pm, the suspect was seen entering a house located opposite the PWD office at Madanrting. Police subsequently raided the premises and arrested two alleged drug peddlers, identified as Bryan Nongwar and Govind Singh.
During the search, officers recovered suspected heroin weighing 5.96 grams along with several syringes, empty containers commonly used for packaging drugs, and other drug-related paraphernalia. The duo was apprehended from the basement of the house, which was allegedly being used by the owner as a storage room.
Police have launched further investigations into both cases to ascertain the source of the contraband and identify others involved in the illegal drug network.
