Shillong, July 1: Synod College, Shillong, celebrated its 61st Foundation Day on Wednesday with a programme highlighting the institution’s academic achievements and contribution to higher education in Meghalaya.
The celebration, held at the College Auditorium, was attended by MLA Adelbert Nongrum as the Chief Guest and Director of Arts and Culture, Government of Meghalaya, Camelia Doreen Lyngwa, MCS, as the Guest of Honour.
The event marked 61 years of the college’s service in the field of higher education and provided an opportunity to reflect on its contributions to academic excellence, character building, social responsibility and community service.
A key highlight of the programme was the release of two academic books—Look South Policy vis-à -vis Meghalaya, edited by Dr. David Arnold Kharchandy and Dr. Ibalari Phylla Khongjoh, and Shadows of 1975: The Emergency and Meghalaya’s Journey as a Young State, edited by Dr. David Arnold Kharchandy.
The books were formally released by the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour in the presence of the Principal, faculty members, students, invited guests and well-wishers. College authorities said the publications reflect the institution’s continued commitment to research, scholarly publications and intellectual engagement with regional, national and historical issues.
The programme also featured the felicitation of outstanding achievers, scholarship recipients and members of the teaching faculty who completed 25 years of dedicated service to the college.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour commended Synod College for its contribution to education and encouraged the institution to continue its mission of providing quality education and serving society.
