Shillong, August 18 : Former Chief Secretary of Meghalaya Rebecca V. Suchiang has passed away, with Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma expressing grief over her demise and remembering her contribution to the State administration.
In a condolence message, Sangma described Suchiang as the first indigenous woman to serve as Chief Secretary of Meghalaya and recalled her leadership, work ethic and dedication to public service.
The Chief Minister said Suchiang had taken bold decisions during difficult times and was respected among her peers for her leadership as well as for the guidance she provided to junior officers.
He also recalled that Suchiang continued to work despite battling illness and said her service and dedication to Meghalaya would be remembered.
“Grieved by the passing of former Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, Kong Rebecca V. Suchiang,” Sangma said in his message.
Extending condolences to her family and loved ones, the Chief Minister prayed for her soul to rest in peace.
