Shillong, June 26 : The office of the District Social Welfare Officer, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong in collaboration with Manbha Foundation and Kripa Foundation, Shillong organized an Awareness Cum Sensitization programme on the “Ill Effects of Substance Abuse & Behavioral Change” for the jail inmates on the 24th June, 2023 at Shillong District Jail, Jail Road, Police Bazaar, Shillong.
The programme was held as part of the Observation of the International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking 2023. The event was attended by the Superintendent, District Prison & Correctional Home, East Khasi Hills District, Smt.N. Umdor, District Social Welfare Officer, East Khasi Hills, District Shillong, Shri.S.Marbaniang, Counsellor, New Life De-addiction Centre, KJP Synod Sepngi, Urban Mission, Shri.Keshab Lamsal, Counsellor from Kripa Foundation (ODIC), Shillong and Smti.S.Phanwar, Representative from Manbha Foundation, Shillong.
The programme began with a welcome speech by the Superintendent of the District Prison. Smt.N. Umdor then gave an introductory speech about the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan campaign. Shri.S.Marbaniang spoke about the basics of drug abuse and the process of social re-integration. Shri.Keshab Lamsal spoke at length on the ill effects of substance abuse and behavioral change. Smti.S.Phanwar also spoke about the work of Manbha Foundation in the field of drug abuse prevention and rehabilitation.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Smti.C.Malngiang, Legal Cum Probation Officer, O/o the District Child Protection Unit, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong.
