AWARENESS PROGRAMME HELD IN MAIRANG TO MARK INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE

Mairang, June 26 : An awareness programme was held at St. Thomas Higher Secondary School in Mairang on June 26, 2023 to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The programme was organized by the office of the Child Development Project Officer, Mairang, Integrated Child Development Services Project in collaboration with the Police Department, Eastern West Khasi Hills District.

The programme was attended by the Additional Superintendent of Police, Eastern West Khasi Hills, Shri P Suchiang, as the chief guest. He spoke about the harmful effects of drug abuse and urged the students to abstain from using drugs. He also stressed on the need for families, voluntary organizations, religious leaders, and all line departments to come together to fight against the menace of drugs.

The programme also included a short play entitled “Ill effects of Drugs” performed by students of St. Thomas Higher Secondary School. The play highlighted the negative consequences of drug abuse on the individual, family, and society.

The programme concluded with a pledge led by the Vice-Principal of St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Sister Cecilia Kujur. The pledge called on all participants to join hands together to fight against drug abuse.
