Shillong, July 10 : The District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills District, Shillong, has imposed Section 144 CrPC in the city with effect from July 12, 2023. The order prohibits the opening of shops, food stalls, restaurants, and enterprises in and around Shillong City after 10:00 PM. It also prohibits the consumption of intoxicants and engaging in any unlawful activities in vehicles, as well as blasting of music near educational/religious institutions, hospitals, and residential areas, especially after 10:00 PM.
The order was issued in view of the various incidents of violence that have taken place in and around Shillong City in recent times. The District Magistrate said that the order was necessary to ensure the safety and security of the public and to maintain peace and tranquility within the city.
Any violation of the order will attract penal provisions under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.
