Shillong, September 29: A Special POCSO Court in East Khasi Hills has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹30,000 in connection with a 2016 case involving the sexual assault of a minor girl.
According to a press release issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, an FIR was received at Nongthymmai Beat House on October 17, 2016, alleging that Batskhembor Diengdoh had sexually assaulted the complainant’s minor daughter, who was also stated to be mentally unstable. A case was subsequently registered at Rynjah Police Station under Section 5(k) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. 29.09.26_0001
Police said the accused was arrested during the investigation and, after completion of the probe, a charge sheet was filed on May 31, 2017 under Section 5(k)(i)/6 of the POCSO Act. On September 25, 2026, the court of Special Judge (POCSO) R. Rymbai, East Khasi Hills, convicted Diengdoh in Special POCSO Case No. 55 of 2017 and sentenced him to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment under Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
The court also imposed a fine of ₹30,000. In default of payment, the convict will have to undergo a further three months of rigorous imprisonment. According to the police release, Diengdoh has already undergone three months and two days of imprisonment and will serve the remaining sentence in jail. The case was investigated by WP/Inspector B.M. Kharakor, who is presently posted with the CID Organisation, Meghalaya, Shillong.
Two Men Get 20-Year and 10-Year Jail Terms in Separate POCSO Cases in East Khasi Hills
Shillong, September 29: Two men have been convicted and sentenced to lengthy prison terms by a Special POCSO Court in East Khasi Hills in connection with two separate sexual assault cases involving minors, according to press releases issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills.
In the first case, Pyntngenlang Nongsiej was sentenced to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹10,000 for an offence under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. In default of payment of the fine, he will undergo a further six months of rigorous imprisonment.
Police said an FIR was registered at Lumdiengjri Police Station on March 16, 2020, alleging that Nongsiej had sexually assaulted the complainant’s seven-year-old son. He was subsequently arrested and a charge sheet was filed on January 28, 2022 under Sections 7/8 of the POCSO Act.
On September 16, 2026, the court of Special Judge (POCSO) R. Rymbai convicted Nongsiej in Special POCSO Case No. 21 of 2022. Police said he has already undergone nine months and four days of imprisonment and will serve the remaining sentence in jail. The case was investigated by retired UBSI S.A. Sangma.
In the second case, Batskhembor Diengdoh was sentenced to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹30,000 in connection with a 2016 case. In default of payment of the fine, he will have to undergo an additional three months of rigorous imprisonment.
